Charlotte Business Journal: Gaston Medical Partners doctors join Tryon Medical as full partners

Charlotte Business Journal’s Caroline Hudson posted “Former CaroMont doctors in Gaston County to join Tryon Medical as full partners” June 18, 2021.

Here are highlights from that story:

Six family doctors, heading up Gaston Medical Partners, will become full partners of Tryon effective July 1. Gaston Medical was receiving services from Tryon’s management group but was still considered a separate entity until now.

Partners have board representation on decision-making, equal ownership in the practice and the same costs to handle, said Dr. Brian Wysong, one of the Gaston doctors. His colleague, Dr. Mike McCartney, will represent the Gaston clinic on the board.

Wysong is glad to be out of a big hospital system. Practicing in an independent group is familiar to him — his dad started a practice nearly 50 years ago. They have similar views on health systems.

“The autonomy, being able to be nimble and change things when things need to be changed, I think that was the biggest draw for us,” Wysong said. “Day after day, you hear patients complain about they can’t get through on the phones, or they’re having a hard time making appointments or nobody ever called them back, and for us, that’s very frustrating and we feel bad.”

Dr. Dale Owen, CEO at Tryon, said the addition of the Gaston doctors signals more growth to come. It was part of the plan to grow in Mecklenburg County and surrounding areas, he said. There are expansion plans in the works, including new locations. The practice is also looking to grow Tryon Direct, which provides primary care to employees at mid-size and large businesses, with a local partnership that places a provider on-site at a company clinic.

“We’re in a full growth mode,” Owen said, noting how Tryon is in a better financial position now compared to pre-Covid times.
