The State Health Plan (which covers North Carolina teachers, state employees, retirees, and their families) recently announced changes that will go into effect in 2027. Fortunately, Tryon Medical Partners is, and will continue to be, one of the State Health Plan’s “preferred providers.”

What is a State Health Plan preferred provider?

A “preferred provider” is a medical practice the State Health Plan has identified as offering high-quality, cost-efficient care.

Under the new plan, patients who use preferred providers, like Tryon, will pay lower out-of-pocket costs, deductibles, and out-of-pocket maximums. In some cases, the Plan estimates preferred providers could save families thousands of dollars a year!

If I am on the State Health Plan, what should I do?

Because Tryon is a preferred provider, patients do not need to do anything other than ensure their Tryon Primary Care Physician (PCP) is selected on their insurance card. Click here for instructions from the State Health Plan on how to select or update a primary care practitioner.

The State Health Plan should reach out in the coming months with more information leading up to their Open Enrollment period (October 12-30, 2026).
