Preparing for your cardiology screening procedure

Please arrive 15 minutes before your procedure, and bring your photo ID and insurance card.

You can eat and drink before the test. Take all medications as prescribed, and bring a list of your current medications.

Wear comfortable clothes as you will be changing into a hospital gown. Avoid wearing dresses, one-piece outfits, and jumpsuits.

Do not eat large meals 4 hours before your exam; you may have a small snack if needed.

You may have as much water as you like before your scheduled exam time, but please avoid all other beverages at least 4 hours before the exam.

Do not smoke or use tobacco products on the day of the test.

Do not put any powders, lotions, or oils on your chest.

Avoid wearing dresses, one-piece outfits, and jumpsuits. Wear appropriate walking shoes, NO flip flops, sandals, heels, slides, or clogs.

The day before the test, avoid gaseous foods such as onions, heavy spices, cabbage, slaw, beans, fried foods, heavy cheeses, or creams.

The evening before the test, have a light dinner and take over-the-counter Gas-X (simethicone) as directed.

Do not eat or drink anything by mouth for 8 hours before the test. No food, water, coffee (not even black coffee), juice, gum, cough drops, tobacco, nicotine, etc.

The day of the test: Take Gas-X as directed 1-2 hours before the test.

If approved by your physician, refrain from taking medicine until after the test is completed. Otherwise, take your required medicine with a little bit of water.
